While my environmental journey started with concern for endangered animals when I was a kid, it shifted to climate justice during college. Since then, I’ve worked to find ways to communicate to people about climate change and motivate them to action.
I’m particularly interested in getting families with younger kids involved in climate action. Helping families change both their individual actions and take collective action was the focus of my book, Growing Sustainable Together: Practical Resources for Raising Kind, Engaged, Resilient Children. The chapter on activism includes the activity Envisioning the Future We Want. You can read my post on doing this activity with kids at our local nature center.
Other resources include the Family Climate Action Toolkit (co-created with Raising Luminaries), the Climate Action for Tired People Quiz and Toolkit, and the Climate Urban Scavenger Hunt for Families.
In addition, I’ve written many posts about environmental issues. Here are some of my favorites specifically on climate justice:
- Wrestling With and Moving Through Climate Grief
- Finding a Third Way for Climate Justice
- Being Reflected in History
- 5 Steps to Discuss Climate Change with Children
